Bumper Bear has been busy all summer long. Take a look at all of his past and upcoming adventures below. Summer 2017 was another fun filled and action packed year for Bumper Bear, beginning with Ladner May Days. Ladner May Days began in 1896 and is now recognized as the largest free family fun event in BC. Bumper and friends participated in the parade on Sunday May 28th riding in a premium shiny new Ford F150 truck accompanied by the spirited team from Cam Clark Ford in the Richmond Auto Mall.
On June 11th Bumper Bear was in Steveston for the 27th Annual Sockeye Run Car Show and Shine. Richmond Auto Mall is a proud Gold Sponsor of this long running Richmond Lions Club event and was pleased to be in attendance. Bumper enjoyed shaking a leg with the Rainshadow Band, kicking some tires, checking out some sweet cars and, his favourite, giving hugs to the little folks at the car show.
On June 22nd the Richmond Chamber of Commerce Annual Golf Tournament took place at Quilchena Golf and Country Club. Richmond Auto Mall sponsored a Hole-In-One and Bumper Bear was there to swing with the golfers and #ShareGoodCarma.
For Canada Day on July 1st, Bumper Bear and our Courtesy Shopper Shuttle Bus were parade participants in the Annual Steveston Salmon Festival parade. Bumper Bear was awarded a second place ribbon for his mascot antics in the parade. Our Mercedes-Benz Richmond supplied a smokin’ hot white convertible for this year’s honourable parade marshal, Nobby Sakiyama, a pioneer of Steveston. Rabbitats, the Richmond Rabbit Rescue from the Richmond Auto Mall, had a rabbit petting display in the Kids Zone offering an opportunity for kids to learn about our rescue rabbits. Richmond Auto Mall also supplied all day services of our courtesy bus and driver to shuttle people from an offsite parking location to the pier near the Cannery.
The White Rock Festival Torchlight Parade took place late into the evening on August 6th. Yup, a night parade! Bumper Bear and our Courtesy Shopper Shuttle Bus were there in full carma style. Our shuttle bus was brightly decorated with a ton of white lights and red décor to celebrate BC Day. Bumper Bear entertained while friends handed out candy to parade goers. This year Richmond Auto Mall was awarded first place for best entry in the commercial division.
On August 20th Bumper Bear took part in the 9th Annual Garlic Festival at Richmond’s Sharing Farm and Bumper Bear was in attendance with high spirits at the Rabbitats display. The Sharing Farm grows food to feed Richmond families in need. Although it operates on a small budget, thanks to the generosity of over 1,000 yearly volunteers and the devotion of a small core of part-time staff, The Sharing Farm is able to put food on the plates of up to 2,000 people a week! Run by community members for community members, The Sharing Farm is dedicated to providing fresh, healthy, local produce to our less fortunate neighbours and provides thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables every year to community meals throughout the city and at the Richmond Food Bank.
That’s not all for Bumper Bear’s adventures. Look out for our friendly mascot at these upcoming events:
Sunday, September 10th – BC SPCA Paws for a Cause Walk in association with the BC SPCA Richmond Education & Adoption Centre. Richmond Auto Mall is a proud Gold Sponsor and “Team Pawsitive” will be there with Bumper Bear and Rabbitats.
Thursday, September 14th – 12th Annual TEE-CUP Golf Tournament for Women Making a Difference in support of Touchstone Family Association. Richmond Auto Mall is a sponsor and will be onsite with a display at Hole #1 and Bumper Bear to bring smiles to all.
Friday, September 22nd – BC Lion’s Mascot Soccer Half Time Show, guaranteed to be a flying faux fur melee of popular local mascots. Anywhere from 20 to 30 mascots will be divided into two teams, Team BC and Team Lions, and will chase after and kick a giant 30” soccer ball on a reduced field. This event is a ton of fun as most mascots can’t see very well or move quickly with ease because of their elaborate costumes – and once a mascot (inevitably) goes down, it’s quite a struggle for them to get back up on their own – causing rounds of laughter from everyone. Keep your eyes out for Bumper Bear, and come out to show your support!
If you’re at any of these events, be sure to say hi!
