Avoid "jack rabbit" starts and aggressive driving. Increasing your speed from 100 kilometres per hour to 120 kilometres per hour will increase fuel consumption by about 20 per cent, and can lead to drastically higher pollution rates. Just one second of aggressive driving can produce nearly the same volume of carbon monoxide emissions as half an hour of normal driving. The tortoise wins again!
